Nephews Kawasaki Project-update

If ya have been followin this blog then ya know my nephew Don has been workin on his chopper project pretty diligently. Well, he recently got everything final mocked up and then he tore it down for finish welding, and paint. Soooo, he hauled over his tank he wants to use on his build. It's off a wrecked honda rebel. I guess I'll let the pics do the talkin....This is gonna take awhile cause it's beat to hell!

Sportster Tank-update

I finally got some time to put some color on this ol tank....started by sealing the tank white, then applied the PPG silver basecoat. After it tacked up, I shot 4 coats of the silver metal flake. Then I used a PPG tinting base of green and put two coats of color on top. This was followed by 4 coats of DC4000 clear. I think it looks pretty good but I know it's nothing compared to what Blue Moon Customs puts out.

Nephews Kawasaki Project-update

My nephew Don has been hard at work gettin his build close to the point of tear down so all the finish welding and grinding can be done. After he's done with that, he's putting the frame and tank in my hands for a little color. Here's some updated pics! If ya like what he has done, leave a message. He'd like to hear what ya think! Remember, this is his very first bike build....I think he's done a rad job so far!

Kawasaki update 2

Saturday I grabbed some Miller Highlife and went out to the shop to fiddle with the 650. I recieved the roller bearings (All Balls Racing) for the neck from crc2 and they fit perfect. I then installed the forks and triple trees from the 81 onto the 77, installed the wiring harness and carbs and then began removing some unwanted factory chit. I robbed the battery out of the Vulcan and got the 650 to start, although it was kinda rough...got some tuning to do fer sure!
After getting her running, I grabbed some cigars, a few more beers and a comfy old computer chair and began dreaming of the look I wanted for the bike. As a sat and stared, the bike said it wanted to be raked and hardtailed. My ass and back said it needed stretched and monoshocked. I bet the bike will win even though my body will suffer but it's about the bike, not me!

Hooter Run

On Sunday the weather was beautiful and we were all itchin to get some seat time so 9 of us met up in Wapakoneta at the truck stop and headed towards Dayton Ohio via the long country way. We arrived at Hooters in Dayton and after ordering a few beers and wings, we got to chattin bout bikes, women and all the stupid shit we had done in our lives. We had a great time, the food was good, the "eye candy" was awesome and the camaraderie was fantastic.

77 Kawasaki update

Spent a little time in the garage last week. Removed the forks off the 77 and the 81.Gonna use the forks from the 81 cause they are a lot nicer and don't leak. I changed over the electrical from the 81 to the 77 so I can run a single rec/reg so I'll get better juice. Still waiting on my neck bearings from crc2. Hopefully get them this week.

Need Jap Parts?

I was searching the web for roller bearings to replace the ball bearings in the neck of the kz650 and ran upon this site CRC2onlinecatalog.com. They have replacement roller bearings for the necks of jap bikes that came from the factory with the old ball bearings that fall out when ya remove the triple tree from the neck.
Any how, I ordered the replacement roller bearing set and I'll let ya'll know how it works out. They also have some hard to find parts so check them out!

New Horse in the Stable

Sunday I stopped over to my kins house and we did a little swappin. Not that kinda of swappin you perverts!...My nephew Don, had bought this 77 Kawasaki 650 as a parts bike for his chopper build. When he was done stealin parts off it, I said I would take it off his hands. After minor negotiations, I ended up with the bike and some cash and he ended up with my car trailer.
I'm gonna use the 750 ltd bike to rob parts off of to make this 650 roar to life since this bike has a good title.
First thing is to get this 650 running. Then if all is good, time to cut her up!

Sportster Tank

I purchased this Sportser tank from a fellow TCU'er. When I got the tank it appeared as if someone had painted the tank with a "shake shake can". I started stripping the tank and low and behold what did I find?  Bondo bondo bondo!! This tank has been used and abused! Anyway, I got her stripped and gonna probably try my hand at some custom metal flake.

Updates to follow!

NO UPDATES

Sorry..havent posted lately cause I've had the damn flu for 4 days. This is what I can tell ya though......The kawasaki 750 is probably a no go now cause the starter chain in the bottom end is junk. I wish the ol girl had a kickstarter but she doesnt and I'm not really wantin to spit the cases so I'll have to wait and see what my nephew is gonna do with an old 650 he picked up.

49 Indian

The other day, my Nephew and I answered a CL ad for a old 77 Kawasaki motorcycle. We roll up to this really nice place and an older man name name Phil met us at the door to his shop. We entered the shop and started chattin about bikes and Phil mossied over to a bike under a cover. When he pulled the cover off this is what was under it.....

My mouth almost dropped to the floor as I stood almost stunned. Phil said he enjoyed restoring old motorcycles. He does all of his own engine work, painting and assembly. He's a true craftsman.  He has even shipped another old Indian he restored across the pond. Here's a few more pics .....

My newphew did end up buying an old Kawasaki that we had orginally went there to look at. It's kinda rough, but it has some parts he needs to help complete his current chopper build, plus it has a clean title so the leftovers will probably end up at my shop in the future.
After more chattin with Phil, I came to find that he knew of my dads shop that he had back in the 60's.
It was a great day of CL shopping and more importantly, we met a really nice guy name Phil who loves bikes as much as we do!
Hope to see you again real soon Phil!

Swap Meet Sunday

The Allen County Fairgrounds was the location for the winter swap meet. Everything and anything (mostly Harley) that you would want or need was there and it was packed with people. Saw a few bro's there that I have riden with and chatted for a few minutes.

I met a older fella there that had this 70 Triumph TR6 for sale for $2500 bones. He said he had reworked the motor and did a major clean up on the bike. Bad thing was the previous owner cut up the original frame and didn't do a great job in modifying the seat and neck area.
