F&*kin Carbs

I haven't gotten much accomplished out in the shop lately. A lack of funds and cold weather has dampened my artistic spirit. Add to that, I dislike the holiday seasons.
I have been trying to get the leaking carb issue fixed on the KZ 650. I re-cleaned the carbs again (bout the 5th time) and installed new float needles and checked the float height several times. I'm still getting a leak in the #4 carb at the overflow. I've polished the float seat several times and just can not get it to stop leaking. Since the float seat is pressed in there nothing I can do about changing out the seat even if I could buy a replacement, which I can't cause they are not available. So for now, I guess I'm just gonna drink and stay in the house. If anyone has a #4 carb for a cv34 Keihn that they wanta sell hit me up.

America-The Fall of the Republic

Idea for New Bars

I've not been happy with the handle bars on the red 77 KZ build so after some thought, I think I'm gonna try making a set of bars similar to the pic below.

Proud Daddy

Just wanted to post a pic of my son Cole who is a senior this year . I am so proud of him since he has made major positive life choices lately. He is #53. I shaded out the other two peoples faces as I did not get permission from their parents to post their pic on my blog.

I'm also proud of exchange student Roope (we call him Robbie) who is also a senior this year! He is #22.

Poker Run/Benefit Ride for Cory

On Saturday, 9-29 a bunch of us met over at Big Al's so we could ride in to the Benefit for Cory together. Prior to leaving on the ride, Big Al had breakfast waiting on us- biscuits and gravy, danishes, coffee, orange juice and fruit. We chatted for a while and took off about 9:30 to head to Minster Ohio where the benefit was to start. Over 100 motorcycles showed up for the ride and were escorted by the Auglaize Co. Sherriffs. The Iron Shield's M/C made Cory an honorary member and lots of money was raised for him and the cancer society. Good luck to Cory! Hopefully he can beat this cancer and live a long wonderful life.

Corn Boil Run

Saturday Sept 15th  I met up with some Chop Cult members at The Rice Paddy Compound for the Corn Boil Run. The run was sponsored and paid for by The Old Bike Barn. The Rice Paddy is located in Columbus Ohio and is a Japanese motorcycle enthusiast dream. Parts upon parts, upon parts of old Jap bike related stuff, as well as new parts for the rice bikes of yesteryear. Tom, the owner is also highly knowledgeable when it comes to old Jap Bikes. His counter parts staff also knows their shit. Tom said they U.P.S daily to anywhere in the U.S  If you need used jap parts, look up the Rice Paddy and give them a try. Let Tom know the Sackman sent ya.

We left out of the compound around 1:30pm and rode down to Caesar Creek Campground near Cincinnati. Bear (Barry) the owner of the Old Bike Barn and organizer of the Corn Boil had picked a seclusive spot where we bikers were all by ourselves. After setting up camp, most of the group went for rides in the back country. I stayed at the camp and drank beer and supervised the cooking of the corn (i'm not stupid).
When the group got back, the ladies (bear's girlfriend, Catherine- Tom's girl, and Carla -Jakes girl) had  the corn and hot dogs done, so we commenced chowin down and trading lies while we ate.
Afterwards, a few of the guys fixed some minor problems with a couple of the bikes and the rest of us sat around the campfire till weeee hours of the morning drinking beer and talkin motorcycles.
In the morning we loaded up and headed back home.
If ya get the chance next year make sure to put this event on your list. The event was free, the food and camping was free so all ya had is the gas to get there and a small donation to help the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. The huge thing I came away with was that EVERYBODY that attended was extremely kind and generous. There was no fighting, arguing or ego trips. They represent what the average biker event is all about- fun, commaraderee and they was there when anybody needed a hand. Bear and his girl were outstanding hosts and went above and beyond what anyone could of imagined. Thanks Bear!

Iron Pony-Columbus Ohio

On Sunday, Big Al rounded up some of us up for a ride to the Iron Pony in Columbus Ohio. So I asked my daughter Kat if she wanted to go and with a resounding yes  we donned our gear and met up with the crew in New Hampshire, Ohio. Along the way we stopped in Marysville, Ohio at Boston Bar and Grille for lunch. Then we proceeded to the Iron Pony . While I don't like promoting "big business" the Iron Pony does carry quality merchandise and it shows in their prices but ya get what ya pay for.

BBB

I haven't had much time to fiddle with the Iron Steed bike lately. Family responsibilities along with a lack of motivation has side-lined me. I did make it out last week and  started the ol girl up and found that cyl 2+3 were not firing. After checking everything out, I found that the coil to those cylinders had gone kaput. So I ordered a used one and put it on last week. Then I attempted to sync the carbs. It's pretty close but not perfect. I noticed that the floats stick occasionally and so now I have to try and deal with that. Overall the bike runs pretty well. I just haven't had the time to do shake down runs. After driving up and down the road a bit, I've come to the conclusion that my idea for the shock mounted seat will need to be changed. There is just to much side to side wiggle. I'm gonna get a few cigars and a six pack and sit down to rethink the set-up. Also, I'm not liking the horseshoe sissy bar and the handlebars that I made. Probably gonna change those two in the future also.So for now, I'm just gonna fiddle with some ideas till I get things sorted out.

I had the chance to buy a 79 Honda 750 but the wife put a major "no fucking way" to that. She said she needs a newer car first. Her Honda only has 194000 miles! Whatever! I think I'll have to hide the next bike at my nephews house till I can convince her that I need another bike! That day will probably come when Hell freezes over or Christ comes back for his people! One way or another I WILL have another bike to tinker with!

So I leave you with some pics of the Back yard Bike Builders meet that I went to in Michigan last month.........

It's Finished!

This is the second complete build that I have done and I must say it has been the most time consuming yet. The only things that are original on this 77 Kawasaki KZ 650 is the neck, motor, wheels and forks. Every thing else was either hand made by me or salvaged from other bikes. Check the rest of my blog for the complete build. Any way, my nephew Don and his son Chris came over Tuesday night and we got the bike fired up and I even rode it down the road. I still have to sync the carbs and add some final touches but I am stoked to say the least.

Iron Steed Update

I got a lot accomplished over the weekend. I took Friday off work and spent 3 hrs cleaning the motor. Then wiped it all down with thinner and masked and painted. After she dried, I unmasked and and with the help of my son, re installed the motor in the frame.
