Escort of the Vietnam Wall

On September 1st 2010 approx 2500-3000 bikers met at the Wapakoneta VFW to support the escorting of the Vietnam Traveling Wall. The turn out for this event was spectacular. Bikes of every make ,model and year. From the hardcore Harley enthusiast to the young dudes on crotch rockets I was taken back the entire time.
To say that I was just a little chocked up would be a fallacy. At one point I stood in awe as the bikes proceeded past Liza and I, as we awaited our turn to join in the procession. I can only imagine what some of the Vietnam Veteran Riders were thinking.
What was more impressive than the bikers who turned out for this event was the people who lined the roadways and streets from Wapakoneta to Sidney. They stood in masses, waving their American flags, giving us the peace sign and giving us riders the "thumbs up"!

Never Gonna Stand For This by Teachenor Clark

Ok...I'm a pretty out spoken person. I tell it like it is and if people don't like it then they can stick it in their ass.
Our gov't is sticking it to us people! When the hell ya'll gonna wake up and say it's wayyyyy past time to make things right. It's just not the President, cause he's only doin what the assholes in congress and his advisors are telling him. It's freekin time to oust all the incumbants and start over. What's the worst that can happen.
I guess that if ya want to sit back and do nothin then ya'll got nothin to bitch about. I for one will not allow these dumb asses with no common sense to "dictate" (cause thats what America is comming to)what the hell my rights are and what the hell I'm allowed to do.
Stand up and fight people. It's your children and mine that's gonna pay the price!!!

Builders Across the Pond

I was surfing one day for examples of custom bikes when I ran across this dude in Ireland. His name is "Ger" and he builds bikes in his garage with some help from some buddies. Ger is a fantasic painter. His work is outstanding and he has an eye for the details in a bike build.
I've chatted with him via emails. He's hopin to win a bike build off in Ireland so he can win a trip to Sturgis next year!
Take a few minutes and check out his site. Shoot him an email letting him know you found a link to his site from my blog and if ya like his work, tell him. Builders need to hear that once in a while. Especially if they want to try and make a living at it. I've added pics from his site so ya can get an idea of his work!

Winter Project

Well, the economy has been tough for all of us. I haven't found a suitable bike project for this winter so I have decided to take the tins off my 1500 Vulcan and do a repaint and maybe add some graphics. I've been playin with some color combos in the shop but still haven't locked onto the ones that I really like. I will also be polishing the frt fork lower, the rear differental and maybe even polish the master cylinders and handles for the clutch and brake perches.
So, stay tuned this winter. Here's what she looks like now....

Del Cook Cancer Benefit

On saturday 7-10-2010 There was a benefit for my sister who has cancer. The benefit was held at Crossraods Church In Lima Ohio and was put on by my sister's employer Nash Finch Foods.
The benefit included a car and motorcycle show, raffle, food and good commeradere. The amount of volunteers and work that went into this benefit was enourmous! I personally want to thank Nash Finch and the employees there for showing compasion for my sister and her husband Mike during this difficult time.
There wasn't a huge turn out as far as motorcycles go but the ones there were all very nice. Your's truely won the "Best Custom Bike Award". Here's some pics of the event.

Tribute to My Dad

This article is a small tribute to my dad, Michael D. Sackinger 1929-1997.

Dad grew up in an orphanage in New York. He moved to Ohio sometime in his teens where he met my mom. They eventually got married and after doing his stint in WWII, my parents returned to Ohio.

Dad opened his motorcycle shop in the 1950’s in a little shed in his back yard. As business and family grew he moved the family and business into a bigger place.
My uncle contributed to the business and thus S&S Cycle Sales was born.
Dad sold BSA’s, Kawasaki’s and I think Lambreta scooters.

Business was going well as my dad worked in the shop at night and at Teledyne Ohio Steel during the day. Mom worked in the shop during the day to tend to customers needs.
In 1966, my brother David (the oldest child in the family) was killed while riding a motorcycle along the rail road tracks behind our house. Dad and mom was both stunned. Blame, hatrid and sorrow plagued dad for several years. Finally in 1970, mom told dad it was either the business or her and the kids. Dad I’m sure was torn as he had worked so very hard to get established but he knew the toll it had taken on mom and the family so dad shut the doors never to reopen the shop again. He later said it was one of the best decisions he ever made.

Dad retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel and went to work at Ford Engine Plant in Lima. He hated that job. In 1975, dad was hired as the head of maintenance at Apollo Career Center in Lima. In 1992 he retired from there.

Fast-forward a few years. Dad passed away in 1998 suddenly of a massive heart attack.
I was devastated. A flood of emotions poured out from me mainly because my dad and I had a disagreement over something stupid the night before. Any ways, I never got to say goodbye to him. I know he knew I really loved him cause I had told him often. I truly miss him.
There’s a lot more to my dad’s life then what I can jot down here and if ya ever want to know more, bring a case of beer over and we can sit on the patio and I can relate to you how great of a father my dad was.
Just thought I would include some pics of what my dad enjoyed…I hope you like them.

July 4th Donut Ride

Yep, that's right! Six of us got up early on Independence Day 2010 and rode the bikes down to Dayton where we stopped at a little donut shop and had coffee and donuts.
We started in Wapakoneta and took I-75 to Vandalia/ Dayton. Afterwards, we returned via Co Rd 25a. We took a short Detor off 25a onto River rd which is very senic and curvy! River Rd ends in Sidney. We made our way to a drive thru city park in Sidney and stopped to chat and take a leak. I took some pics of the gang that I rode with and one cool bike that belongs to Big Al. He's about 6'6 but he's a big teddy bear until ya piss him off, which I never want to do.
We left the park and headed back on 25a into Wapak where we split and went our seperate ways. I had a blast and the people I rode with were very nice and knew how to ride in a responsible manner!
